UpTo Mainstreet launched its 2014 series of pop-up creative firms on April 28 in Wilkinsburg, PA. UpTo Wilkinsburg moved into 619 Penn Avenue thanks to a gracious property owner who will be turning the space into something cool this summer.
During the event, UpTo Staff met with 15 small business owners and created 27 assets – logos, posters, press releases, and social media calendars. What an amazing group of small business owners working hard to grow their businesses.
Momentum is picking up in Wilkinsburg. Legacy businesses, like Kenyon Jewelers and James Floral, continue to thrive and support the community while innovative firms establish their operations here and investors acquire and redevelopment long-vacant properties. At the same time, Wilkinsburg offers opportunities for startup businesses with its affordable properties, low cost of living, convenient location, and growth potential.
Options abound in the Wilkinsburg central business district. The busy Penn Avenue corridor has the eyes of over 27,000 passing cars each weekday and the pedestrian-friendly, tree-lined Wood Street provides many prospective spaces for small restaurants, cafes, and other shops. The Wilkinsburg Community Development Corporation (CDC) staff works to bring development to the area and the CDC’s website highlights properties for rent and sale and details programs aimed at acquiring vacant property and assisting small business owners financially.
